Natchez is genuinely home to me...I spent my first 23 years trying to get away and my next trying to get back. I can truly say "I love Natchez". When my friends come to visit I try to make it as memorable as possible. I will share my list of what not to miss.
If you only have time to see three houses while in Natchez the list is as follows:
LONGWOOD
STANTON HALL
ROSALIE OR MELROSE
All of the homes are wonderful in their own unique way- so there are not bad choices. You just can not come all this way and miss Longwood.
I recommend upon arrival going to the Natchez Visitors Center. There you can get a feel for what houses are on tour and other attractions in Natchez. You can purchase you tickets there. You should enjoy the view of the Mississippi River from there and see the short film on Natchez.
My List of the Best of the Best
Best old fashion Malt and Hamburger -
The Malt Shop
Best Fried Chicken- The Carriage House (on the grounds of Stanton Hall- Lunch only)
Best Ribs, Catfish and Steak-
Biscuits and Blues (owned by my brother Peter)
Best Smoked Brisket and Potato Salad-
Pig Out Inn
Best Smoked Prime Rib-Kings Tavern
Best Pizza by the slice-
Uptown Grocery
Best Coffee
- Natchez Coffee Company
Best Desserts - Mammy's Cupboard (Lunch only)
Best Experience for Fine Dining- Monmouth Plantation (five course dinner in the main Mansion)
Best over all restaurant-Castle Restaurant at Dunleith (contemporary Southern Food)
Best View- The Vue Restaurant
This is what I do when I have guests visiting me....I take them on a progressive dinner-
Begin across the street at the Pub in the Castle - have drinks and appetizers - such as Fried Green Tomato with Lump Crab Meat...then go to Fat Mamas and have Tamales and a "Knock you Naked" Marguerita...then end up at Biscuits and Blues and share some BBQ Ribs and have the Chocolate Bread Pudding and Natchez Beignet for Dessert and enjoy the Blues guitarist who plays on Friday and Saturday nights.
